IBG 27 – Brenda Knowles – Leveraging Focus to Do Deep Work as an Introvert

May 5, 2017 / By Sarah Santacroce

Episode 27, with Brenda Knowles

As introverts, we often have a difficult time saying ‘no’ because of our deep sense of empathy for other people. Yet when you spread yourself too thin, you simply cannot do your best work – and you end up feeling overwhelmed and anxious. Today’s guest has developed a method of choosing the projects that are most important so she can dive deep into those ‘higher loves.’

Brenda Knowles is a personal and relationship coach for sensitive introverts and their partners. She seeks to support introverts in leading empowered, fulfilling lives in alignment with their personalities, and she is dedicated to helping her clients build secure relationships. She is a trained Myers Briggs Practitioner with a background in attachment theory and family mediation.

Brenda discovered her introversion in her mid-30’s when her three school-age children required her involvement in several activities, and she realized just how drained she felt by constant immersion in social situations. She read The Introvert Advantage, and began a personal journey for self-improvement which developed into the blog, Space2Live. As Brenda continued to learn how to do relationships well as an introvert, the path opened up to a career coaching individuals and couples. She will soon be a published author, sharing anecdotes, advice and actions steps for balancing the independent, introspective life of an introvert with the interdependent life of loving relationships under the working title The Quiet Rise of Introverts: 8 Practices for Living and Loving in a Noisy World. Today Brenda offers guidance in making purposeful choices. Listen and learn how to leverage available tools that will eliminate disruptions so that you can pursue ‘wildly important goals.’

In this episode you’ll learn…

  • How Brenda’s personal journey for self-improvement grew into a coaching business.
  • The challenge of social media marketing as an introvert.
  • How to leverage scheduling tools to maintain a social media presence without feeling ‘interrupted.’
  • Her strategy to choose quality over quantity when it comes to business marketing.
  • The benefits of an ability to focus and do deep work.
  • The pros and cons of rich curiosity.
  • How to choose projects based on your ‘higher loves.’
  • The feasibility of achieving work-life balance.
  • How to ‘eat a live frog first thing in the morning.’
  • The importance of getting enough sleep.
  • How to employ Pinterest as an organizing tool.
  • Why writing is for everyone.

Love your interviews and receive a lot of validation and support from all you do. I am still trying to create that one-on one coaching practice, but thanks to you and your guest speakers, I know it’s possible.
